My grandson is the second of a set of twins. Both boys were given DNA tests. His brother has two of the DS characteristics: simian crease on left palm and extra space between first and second toes, however he doesn't have DS.
Twin number two (Sigundo) was diagnosed with Mosaic Down Syndrome. He has the simian crease on his right palm, the extra space between first and second toes, undeveloped tonsils and adenoids and is developmentally delayed. While his brother, Segundo, is eating solid foods, Sigundo survives on Pediasure. As an infant he ate some baby food, bread and crackers, however he now refuses any food other than Pediasure and lightly buttered popcorn. Sigundo is a cheerful, beautiful child who loves to dance, is starting to talk, started walking at 16 months of age, and loves to play with balls. He also loves to play outdoors and can kick a soccer ball up and down our yard. His new form of play is to see how far he can walk backwards without falling.
He will play with his cousins, has his favorites but usually waits until his brother is playing with specific toys and when his brother abandons the toy (e.g. toy car) he will play with it. He also loves books and pretends to read aloud.
Our biggest challenge is his refusal to eat solid foods and his selective conversations.
